ABOUT GREEN THUMB THEATRE:
Green Thumb's offices are located on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of thexʷməθkʷəy̓əm(Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səl̓ílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. As a touring company, Green Thumb Theatre’s work often takes place throughout the traditional homelands of most of the Indigenous Nations and cultures across British Columbia and beyond.
Green Thumb Theatre is a force within the field of theatre for young audiences, not only in British Columbia, but across the country and throughout the world. Green Thumb Theatre creates, produces, and tours plays that explore social issues relevant to the lives of children, youth, and young adults. We provide theatre that celebrates the language and stories of today’s generation and culture to stimulate empathy, debate, and critical thinking.
DESCRIPTION OF CONTRACT:
Green Thumb Theatre (the “Theatre”) is seeking an experienced artist or educator (the “Author”) to create a study and resource guide to accompany our new production, PEOPLE LIKE VINCE by C.E. Gatchalian. This show is for elementary school-aged audiences, grades 2 to 8.
Applicants from outside of the Lower Mainland are welcome to apply, as this work can be completed remotely. Applicants must be based in Canada.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE AUTHOR:
- Read PEOPLE LIKE VINCE by C.E. Gatchalian
- Liaise with Green Thumb Theatre’s Artistic Director and General Manager about the content of the study guide
- Align the content of the study guide with relevant BC Ministry of Education curriculum guidelines
- Create a study guide for PEOPLE LIKE VINCE that includes:
· 3 to 4 relevant and age-appropriate pre-show classroom discussion questions
· 3 to 4 relevant and age-appropriate post-show classroom discussion questions
· 2 to 3 relevant and age-appropriate classroom group, art, or writing activities
· A list of relevant and age-appropriate resources for:
o students and educators (primarily), and
o students’ guardians (secondary) – optional, but preferred
· A list of definitions or other sections as deemed necessary by the Author and Artistic Director
PROJECT TIMELINE (subject to change):
- June 10, 2025 – RFP Submission Deadline
- Week of June 17, 2025 – Interviews to take place via Zoom
- June 21, 2025 – Contract offer made
- July 12, 2025 – First draft of the Study Guide submitted to the Theatre
- July 19, 2025 – Final draft of the Study Guide submitted to the Theatre
- August 2, 2025 - The Theatre to have the final designed version of the study guide ready for review by both parties
- August 6, 2025 – Deadline for corrections to be sent to the Theatre by the Author
SYNOPSIS FOR People Like Vince by C.E. Gatchalian:
Myrtle is having a hard time making friends at her new school, but when Myrtle’s Uncle Vince arrives in town, she finally feels like she has someone who understands her and with whom she can really be herself. Their friendship becomes the closest and most important relationship in Myrtle’s life but sometimes, Vince’s behaviour confuses her – and even causes the other kids at school to make fun of her. So, when her Uncle Vince stops coming to see her, Myrtle must learn how to deal with and accept his lifelong struggle with mental illness.
Written specifically so that children can understand and relate, People Like Vince is alight-hearted, sensitive and compassionate look at a serious subject that affects us all.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Knowledge of the BC Ministry of Education curriculum guidelines for Elementary students, including Indigenous Education, Arts Education, English Language Arts Education, Social Studies, and Physical and Health Education.
- Experience creating lesson plans for elementary school-aged youth
- A familiarity with theatre for young audiences is an asset
