Green Thumb Theatre is an Agent for this play.

When Avery uncovers a plot by his father to cut down his favourite tree, he enrols his best friend to live with him in the yard (No TV! No video games! Nothing!) to protest. But when a heated debate over soccer and global warming goes sour, Avery questions if he has the guts to be an Enviro-Man or is he merely, as his sister calls him, a Tree Boy.

Feedback and Reviews

they were awesome. As the principal, I can say that the students and staff really enjoyed the performance.

Here are some questions and comments from some of my grade 3 students: 1. How did you change your clothes so fast? (The actors have all their costumes laid out and prepared for each change.  The costumes have also been rigged or altered with snaps and Velcro in order to help the actors change quicker).  2. Green Thumb Theater Rox!! How did you fit under the stage? (Underneath the stage deck  is empty and hollow, and on the backside of the tree fort base there are two large holes cut out that the actors can crawl through to get underneath).  3. Why didn't you have a cardboard tree? (In order to preserve the tree for touring, it had to be made with other materials.  It was made with light aluminum tubing that provided a stable structure so the tree wouldn't knock over. The skin of the tree, made of canvas Velcros onto a circle a the top.  The designer tried to make everything as environmentally friendly as possible). 4. Why did Mr. Robinson want to cut down the tree? (So he could build a parking garage).   5. How old are you? (the actors in the play) (Sam was played by Hazel is 27, Daryl who played Avery is 27 and Josh who played the father is  30).  6. How many characters were Hazel and what were their names? (Hazel was two characters, she played Avery's sister, Janine and his best friend, Sam.  7. Why didn't the bowl break?  (We don't recall a bowl in the play). We would love to hear your answers to our questions .

Tree Boy was TERRIFIC!!! It is a good way to learn about nature in a very dramatic way. I liked how you were able to weave in friendship and counting on people. It taught me to never give up in things you believe in. It had a surprise ending with the footprint. Tree Boy was everything a play is supposed to be-true, funny... It is a must see!!!
