What happens when a lie takes on a life of its own?
Ten year-old Jessie Carrera has never given much thought to her body image, but when her best friend, Deanna, challenges her to lose a few pounds, Jessie dives straight into a secret world of dangerous dieting. Her dinosaur-loving younger brother Josh is concerned for her, but he's got his own problems. Since telling a lie to his best friend Sam, he's being haunted, or maybe hunted, by a T. Rex. As their stories collide, Jessie discovers that there's a price to pay for skinny and Josh learns that a lie can take on a life of its own.

The Skinny lie is a great live proformance and I think it can teach some kids a inportant lesson. The actors really could explain how some people do have problems like this one. But being Skinny is not the world.

I loved the show, it taught me a great sesson about lieing. The back round was very cool how you could have a picture of somthing and put it as the backround of the play. The ators who played the parts whervery great. diana thought only about herself, jessie had big lunches.
- Casey
I thought the show was great. My favorite part is when Josh sticks his head in the trash and roars like a dinosaur. I liked that part because I love dinosaurs.
- Henry
It was awesome. The sound effects were awesome. Great topic...many girls need to have this information. I liked it...reminded me of my brother. Loved the girl playing three ROLES...wow!

I am a Dance Prof, and the mother of a third grader. I found The Skinny Lie to be both entertaining and informative. The issues of food, weight, and media influences are area that need to be addressed with young kids. Sadly even girls as young as my daughter are feeling the effects of our image obssessed culture. Hopefully, shows like this will lead to honest discussions about how we all buy into the skinny lie. It would be nice if Jesse was not wearing the Hummingbird pants at the end of the show, and if we actually saw her eating those chocolate chip cookies! Thank you also for pointing out the use of the web in the world of eating Disorders. I believe that a lot of people do not know of the multitude of sights that reenforce disordered eating. Thanks again, and keep up the good work.

Dear Green Thumb Theater, I thought that "The Skinny Lie" was great. It made me think about how lying and not eating are more serious than people think. Also, it made me think about how family problems can cause kids to do stuff like lying and not eating. I liked the play because it was relly well acted because you played your characters really well. I liked how you had all four of the the settings in one place. It was cool how you weeled in the "kichen". I thought all the chacters really fit the way you played them. I think it was good that you made up a play that was about lying and anorexia because I think it really made a impression on people. Thanks for a great play,
- Mia Feasy
My two children and I attended this performance today and we all really enjoyed it. The actors did a great job, the story line was handled well and the use of the film and screen was very creative. The performance led to an interesting discussion between my children and me. Thank you for a great educational experience. I just thought the whole thing was very well done!

i really enjoyed your play it was almost as if i was included in the play! i thought that the actors were well prepared and that they fitted into the personality of the character they were acting. not only the acting was great ,but these plays had a meaning to them like unhealthy eating, or bullying. So i liked to thank you all for a great entertainment. Hope to see another great performance! Hummingbird

the performance was really nice... it helped me realize that being happy with how your body type is really important. wanting to look like others can take over your life and never let you be in contol!!!! it also hhelped me realize that telling the truth is good and it doesn't matter ifthe truth hurts but it is better to tell teh truth than lie i really enjoyed the show thanks for putting on the show
- Abigail Tadigadapa
I really enjoyed the show and felt the same feelings rushing to me. Probally every girl wished they were skinny. To them, it's a symbol of beauty, and so boys will like them. But, I must admit, it is better not to starve just to make yourself a supermodel. Tong

I liked the plot of the story. It taught a lot of teens what diet crashing can do to your body. And the acting was well done. I also liked how they had the screen and you could see everything they were doing behind the scene, I love how the play was put together. Keep up the good work! Sincerley, Student

We had "Skinny Lie" perform at Glenbrook Middle School this morning and I just wanted to let you know that everyone was very impressed with the performance. As someone who used to stage manage with Carousel Theatre (many many years ago) I know how hard it is to get a show together and take it on the road. I was impressed by the compact set, the smooth and seamless use of multi media, and the solidness of the cast. The performers projected well into the large gym space and kept the attention of 400 grade 6's and 7's for the whole performance (not easy to do!). The play itself was a great mixture of information, humour, different themes, and a "message" that was clear but not heavy. Well done! Thanks again and good luck with the tour. School Counsellor

That play The Skinny Lie was awesome I liked how Josh kept getting scared of that dinosaur it was really funny! But it was also pretty scary how Jessie fainted like that, it looked so real! And it was really good that they all spoke up so the people in the back could hear.As far as I think that was awesome!!! The kids were really engaged. They loved the media component. The actors knew how to handle an audience of children. This is challenging and many outside visitors do not have this skill. I was very impressed during the question period.
- Vanessa Jaggi, Vice Principal, Willoughby Elementary
The students enjoyed it. Intermediate students were caught up in the dieting issue and primary students were interested in the dinosaur theme and lying and stealing. This production tied into our school's social responsibility focus. It pertains to honesty, integrity and self esteem issues we discuss in our next module. Great!
