Twelve year old Myrtle regards her relationship with her uncle to be the closest and warmest one in her life. He is the only person she feels truly accepts her. He encouraged her creativity. He also taught her how to fish. On every level they are kindred spirits. When he suddenly stops coming to see her, she learns how to deal with and accept the reality of his lifelong struggle with mental illness.
Drifting brings a light sense of humor and deep compassion to a serious subject.
