Showdown is an insightful, entertaining look at how young people can overcome their differences and learn to work together to reach a common goal.
Rex is a hockey nut and would rather spend all day playing "Showdown" than doing schoolwork. Becky, his longtime friend, is highly competitive and has only one goal in mind - to be the smartest student in the class. Both of the children are also constantly driven by the need to please members of their respective families. When a new student named Marshell arrives at their school from another city, Rex and Becky's first reactions are that he is too "weird." While Marshell has a vast range of skills, he has an obsession with science fiction fantasy and displays signs of quirky behaviour. When Marshell scores higher marks than her on some school tests, Becky identifies him as a threat to her academic reputation, increasing her aversion for him.
Meanwhile, a chance to work on a science project brings Marshell and Rex closer together, and they begin to learn more about each other's personal interests. This further exacerbates Becky's frustration, especially when she places second to Marshell in the school spelling bee. The two boys try to persuade Becky that there is more to friendship than one's brain power and that they would like her even if she didn't score high marks. To their delight she agrees to work together with them on their science project.

Fantastic! The students were completely engaged in the story and there was lots of humour for the adults. An awesome production, definitely worth booking.
