AUDITION | DERWENT IS DIFFERENT by Jamie Norris

Green Thumb Theatre is seeking submissions from Lower Mainland based performers for the role of Derwent in DERWENT IS DIFFERENT by Jamie Norris. Directed by Sarah Rodgers. The show will be touring to elementary schools throughout BC in the fall of 2022.

Contract dates (subject to change):

September 26, 2022 – December 11, 2022

All artists will be engaged under a CTA form of contract, specifically Article 55:00 Theatre for Young Audiences. Submissions from Equity and non-Equity performers are welcome. Accommodations are arranged and per diems are supplied for any out-of-town touring as per the CTA.

About the show:

Imaginative Derwent feels like a bit of an outsider at school. Luckily, he has always been able to depend on his best friend, Ramona. But now, even Ramona says he’s “too weird”! To make matters worse, Ramona is spending time with Lucas — a classmate who is occupied with making Derwent’s life miserable. To save their friendship, Derwent creates a video diary for Ramona, chronicling his experiences.

DERWENT IS DIFFERENT explores the how we communicate in-person versus digitally, and the importance of staying true to yourself.

Roles to be cast:

Derwent, age 12 (he/him) open ethnicity – Imaginative, quirky personality. Loves performing magic tricks and creating movies.

Character will be portrayed by adult actor. Ability with physical comedy an asset. DERWENT IS DIFFERENT is a one person show.

Auditions will be taking place in-person on June 6th, 7th and 8th , 2022. Callbacks will take place in-person on June 15th and 16th , 2022.

Green Thumb Theatre has a Mandatory Vaccine Policy for all staff and contractors. All those auditioning will be required to provide proof of double vaccination and adhere to the COVID-19 audition policies that will be sent out prior to your audition date.

Deadline to submit for consideration is May 23, 2022 by 4:30pm. We thank all applicants for their interest. Due to capacity, we will only be contacting individuals we will be inviting to audition.
